Cotswold Roof Cleaning is a professional roof cleaning specialist working with homeowners throughout the Cotswolds and the surrounding towns and villages. We clean all types of roofs, using specialist air scraping to remove moss, algae and lichen with no water at all.
A roof is easy to forget about. Moss, algae and lichen build up gradually enough that most owners only notice when the roof starts looking green, dark or weathered. By that point there is usually growth spread across the tiles, slate, valleys and shaded areas.
Organic growth is more than cosmetic. Moss can hold moisture against the roof surface, while lichen and algae can spread across larger areas over time. Keeping the covering clear helps maintain its appearance and makes ongoing roof maintenance easier.
Every roof is different. Concrete tiles, clay tiles, slate, stone slate and other coverings all have their own characteristics. We assess the roof first and use our air scraping system, avoiding unnecessarily aggressive methods. See how we clean Cotswold stone and listed roofs.

Specialist air scraping that removes moss and organic growth with no water at all, so there is no risk of water ingress and no runoff.
An HSE-approved biocide applied after every clean, at no extra cost, to slow the return of moss, algae and lichen.
A close look at the roof before and after cleaning, identifying obvious issues such as cracked, slipped or damaged tiles.
Every roof clean is backed by our 4-year moss-free guarantee, so you know the result will last.
Most roofs do not go from clean to green overnight. Growth builds slowly until one day the roof no longer looks as clean or well maintained as the rest of the property.
A properly cleaned roof can change the look of a whole property. Moss removed from the tiles, lichen cleared from the surface and staining treated, leaving the roof looking cleaner and better maintained.
Growth cleared from slate joints, valleys and the eaves courses where it sits deepest.
Organic build-up and leaf litter cleared from the covering and from the gutter line.
A far more even, natural finish across every slope of the roof.
The approach is matched to the type, age and condition — never one method for every roof.
We photograph the roof before and after so you can see the difference from angles you cannot.

Choosing someone to work on your roof is not the same as booking a window clean. The roof is the part of the property you can see least and worry about most, and the work happens at height. That is why we have built the business around being straightforward: an honest assessment of what the roof needs, a clear price before anything starts, and a team that treats the property with care while they are there.
We are roof cleaning specialists rather than a general cleaning company that also cleans roofs. Everything we do is focused on roof coverings, including moss removal, algae and lichen treatment, tile and slate cleaning and ongoing roof maintenance. That focus matters because the right approach for a modern concrete tile is not necessarily the right approach for an older slate or stone roof.
Our specialist air scraping system is another important part of our approach. We use no water at all. Air removes the moss and organic growth, so there is no risk of water being forced under your tiles and no runoff around your property.
Finally, we would rather tell you the truth than win the job. If a roof does not need cleaning yet, we will say so. If we spot something that needs a roofer rather than a cleaner, we will tell you what we have seen. Most of our work comes from recommendations, and that only happens if homeowners feel they were dealt with honestly.
The Cotswolds is a green, wet and sheltered part of the country, and roofs here experience conditions that organic growth enjoys. Regular rainfall keeps coverings damp, shaded slopes receive less direct sun, and many properties sit beside mature trees that shade the roof and drop leaf litter onto it.
Moisture is the common thread. A roof that dries quickly after rain is less likely to develop heavy moss than one that remains damp for hours. Moss can establish across tiles and slate, algae can spread across the surface and lichen can become firmly attached to exposed areas. Older or textured roof coverings can hold moisture particularly well.
None of this means a roof is about to fail. It does mean it is worth keeping an eye on. A quick look from the garden a couple of times a year can tell you whether growth is spreading, whether debris is collecting in valleys and whether the roof is starting to look increasingly weathered. Catching it early can make future cleaning simpler.

Not when the cleaning method is matched to the roof covering. The risk comes from using an unnecessarily aggressive approach on a roof that cannot take it. We assess the covering first and use our air scraping system where appropriate, helping to remove moss without relying on high-pressure water.
If we find tiles or slates that are already cracked, slipped or in poor condition, we will tell you what we have seen.
